Once again the year is flying by. It was a slow start but has really picked up as the season went through. In our Spring newsletter I started it off by stating it was the same old thing here at Orr Lake Golf Clubs with lots of new improvements. Well we have continued on through the season with more improvements. The new shaped up area around the ponds on 11 and 13 has gone over to great fanfare. The new 10th blue tee is almost ready to open, Cart paths on a number of holes have been completed, a new rock wall between holes 13 and 14 has been completed, and numerous irrigation upgrades have taken place. One upgrade where I received a huge number of compliments that really caught me off guard was the new path on hole #8 white and blue tees. The old path went on to the neighbors property and the new owner asked me to move the path. Well we got right on to it and 5 hours later it was completed. For weeks after people would come up to me and compliment me on what I had done on hole #8. I would think about it and then ask them “what did I do on the 8th?” After they told me the new path I would laugh. I got more compliments on something I had to do vs something I wanted to do.
Food is a Must!!
This has been another year where food sales have been going way up due to our new menu, the improved quality going to homemade burgers, Fishy Fridays which is still a huge hit and our new Roast Beef sundays. We have been getting a lot of people who are coming out just to eat as well without golfing. Our Fishy Fridays Deal and Roast Beef Sundays will continue on until Thanksgiving weekend.
EVENTS
Our annual Will Marshall Insurance Golf Event will once again be taking place this fall on September 11th with an 8:30am shotgun start. The event is a 2 Person Scramble that raises money for the Season’s Center for Grieving Children. The cost is $85 per person before September 1st and $95 per person after. The price includes 18 holes of golf, cart, Sausage on a bun, Hole in One contests and lots of prizes. This event has been selling out so please book your spot early.
Our 2nd Annual Individual Stroke Play Competition the Orr Lake Open will take place on Sept 30-Oct 2nd. Our goal last year was to get 40 people and we got them no problem. The event was a huge success with everyone raving about how much fun they had. Once again in this event there will not be any handicaps used but instead everyone one will be placed into one of 4 flights. The flights will not be determined until after each round has finished and will change as required. So for example if 100 people sign up, after the first round the top 25 scores will go into the 1st flight, the 2nd 25 scores will go into the 2nd flight and so on. After the second round the 2 scores will be totaled and the flights adjusted as required using the same format. This format really helped to prevent any sandbagging and allow golfers to play against people of equal ability. The cost will be $150 for non members and $125 for members. This will include a sign up gift, tee time practice round with cart on Friday, Fish & Chips dinner Friday night where teams and hole assignments will be presented, Saturday 10am Shotgun start with cart and barbecue lunch and Sunday 10am Shotgun start with cart and 6pm Roast Beef dinner and prize presentations. This year all the prizes will be given out as cash! Call our Proshop to register for both events!
